It’s always a great pleasure to unreservedly recommend an amazing new song. Christ Is Risen by Phil Wickham, Mack Brock and Brian Johnson is catchy yet biblical, beautifully produced in this Phil Wickham recording, and most of all it exalts our glorious Lord Jesus Christ.

CHORUS:

Hallelujah, Christ is risen from the grave

Hallelujah, Christ is risen from the grave

All throughout eternity

Our song will be the same

Hallelujah, Christ is risen from the grave

I think I first heard the song when my son Caleb started playing it a few weeks ago. The chorus (above) captures so much of the gospel story. Mention of the grave reminds us that Christ died for us, but He is risen, so we are praising Him for His resurrection power. And it doesn’t end there: the chorus draws on Revelation 5:12 and other verses to join our worship here on Earth with the glorious worship of the Lamb for all eternity in Heaven!

The verses of the song tell us more about God’s amazing grace, borrowing first from John Newton’s famous hymn before reminding us that Christ’s death on the cross makes it possible for us, the undeserving prodigals, to come home to our Father God (see Luke 15 for the story of the prodigal son).

The final verse pictures our homecoming to glory. It reminds me a little of Phil Wickham’s Heaven and Earth album, and especially the song ‘Cielo’, which similarly paints the picture of that beautiful day when at last we see the beauty of the face of Jesus.
